DeLand actor gives voice to Phineas, hits big screen in "Role Models," continues on "Everybody Hates Chris"

At 16, Vincent Martella of DeLand is one busy actor. He has a sitcom (The CW's "Everybody Hates Chris"), a movie ("Role Models," opening Friday) and an animated series ("Phineas and Ferb").

He supplies the voice of main character Phineas in the show at 8:30 p.m. Fridays on Disney Channel.

"Working with the creators, trying to make them laugh, is incredible," Vincent says.

He especially likes the challenge of expressing through his voice all the emotions that he usually shows with his face and body.

"That's something people find hard to do sometimes," Vincent says. "It's cool to explore it. Other times, I'm getting to sing. It's awesome. I have a pretty good range. Phineas' voice is much different from mine."

Vincent is shooting the second season, which will have 39 episodes. The first season was 26 installments.

"Right out of the gate, it has been our top-rated animated show," says Eric Coleman, senior vice president, development for Walt Disney Television Animation.

"Vincent's performance is fantastic," Coleman adds. "He puts on a great character voice that sounds natural. It helps set the tone for the show. It gives it warmth and a positive sense of humor."

Vincent, a sophomore, describes "Role Models" as having "the laughs of 'Superbad' and 'Knocked Up,' but with family values." He praises co-stars Paul Rudd ("awesome") and Seann William Scott ("sweet and humble").

The teen actor plays Greg on "Everybody Hates Chris," which is in its fourth season at 8 p.m. Fridays. The cast has completed 22 episodes and is waiting to hear if there will be a fifth season.

Whatever happens, Vincent says he is committed to performing.

"I'd really like to stay in the business and entertain," he says. "That's what I like to do whether it's in acting or animation or singing. Whatever comes my way, I enjoy it all so much."
